Canterbury as a city has a strong sense of history dating back to the Roman times and in fact before that. It was and still is, to a certain extent, a centre for arts and crafts as well as a historical hub of theatre and literature. It has seen recent improvements on the latter side of things with the Marlowe Theatre and The Beaney Institute (Library, Arts and Heritage Centre) being revamped. Although I must point out that the landscaping of both projects is somewhat non-existent.
Wincheap is an area of urban sprawl complete with uninspiring industrial estate but there is potential. Its right next to a wonderful, community managed wetland meadow complete with ginger long horned cows. Along the main road there are many historical buildings adding a much needed charm to the car exhaust fumes hanging in the air.
