Diagrams and New Perspectives

It's been a long while since posting. During my unapologetic absence I've started an MA in Landscape Architecture. Its final project time dealing with Assessment and Design. Assessment means diagrams and my favourites are shown below. The site is Canterbury and how it might be reconnected to it's Medieval quarter (read mostly industrial bizarrely) known as Wincheap. Canterbury is contained with in the circular city wall and Wincheap stretches out in a South Westerly direction.
Existing Situation: Paint splodges indicate areas with strong cultural or heritage links

Developing Situation: New Developments do nothing to tap into the culture of Canterbury
Proposed Situation: A way of reintegrating the Wincheap Quarter is to provide strong links with the city's heritage

Canterbury as a city has a strong sense of history dating back to the Roman times and in fact before that. It was and still is, to a certain extent, a centre for arts and crafts as well as a historical hub of theatre and literature. It has seen recent improvements on the latter side of things with the Marlowe Theatre and The Beaney Institute (Library, Arts and Heritage Centre) being revamped. Although I must point out that the landscaping of both projects is somewhat non-existent.

Wincheap is an area of urban sprawl complete with uninspiring industrial estate but there is potential. Its right next to a wonderful, community managed wetland meadow complete with ginger long horned cows. Along the main road there are many historical buildings adding a much needed charm to the car exhaust fumes hanging in the air.

Now for some pictures:

A steam punk looking lamp post in Wincheap
Little bit of corner detailing

An amusing bin at Wincheap Park
Another example of poor sign maintenance, although this one has a certain charm
